I started character work with Molly and Jon! We went over their character bios and Jon said that he really benefited from hearing Molly’s bio which made me so excited to see how much for an ensemble production this was going to be. We did some light blocking and and got the scenes are their feet but we spent most of the time talking and really digging into their relationship. Next with Jon and Jillian we mostly discussed their relationship and got into Jillian’s character bio. We broke down parts of the script that might be confusing in their scenes such as the “I love you”/”okay” line. We did some light blocking but really spent most of the discussing characters and their relationship (and Nina’s relationship with Lili). It was a great first rehearsal!!!

Rehearsal 1
My plan for day 1 was for introductions and a read through, followed by a discussion of the play and beginning to engage in critical thinking of the piece. I then had them walk around the space playing with centers, character jewelry, age, and thinking about their individual character histories. I then had them pair off and do a brief Meisner exercise to get them to start thinking about how reacting is going to be key in the show and how important it is to engage with their cast members. I am so excited to start with this cast and I’m excited to start exploring the piece with them. I’m curious to see what the process is going to be with kids who are new to the theater department and how best to be a good introduction to their time at Bucknell.
