Rehearsal Report 9/17

Call Began: 6:30

Breaks: 7:22-7:30

General:

Fight call:

Grandma/Wallace punch (scene 14)

Psychiatrist / Wallace punch (scene 14)

Victoria/ Wallace push (scene 4)

Nina/Wallace hit (scene 19)

Victoria stabbing (scene 14)

Mother death (scene 2)

Intimacy call:

Wendy and Wallace (scene 17)

Lili and Wallace (scene 15)

Nina and Wallace (scene 16)

Sarah and Wallace (scene 10)

(For the intimacy call, everyone waited in the lobby instead of watching in the room)

Warm Ups

Kat did some warm-ups with the cast. They did a shake-out, and then they did some fun tongue-twisters.

Run Through (timing: 1 hour and 14 minutes)

The run ran a little longer than normal because we didn’t have Caroline or Sami to do the scene changes. Kat read lines for Caroline and Sami (psychiatrist and victoria). Jon called for line 2 times – no one else called for line. Emma and Bard also used headsets today (for the first time).

Notes

Kat gave notes to the cast. At this time, Barb left rehearsal. Orli stayed to fix a couple of set lighting cues. Kat told the cast that today was the last day that they could call for line.

Sound:

Emma ran sound cues for today’s run through. Today was the first day that we used music during the scene changes. Instead of running sound off of the system, we just played the cues (without fades) from Emma’s computer.

Set:

We used the new desk, instead of the rolling dresser for rehearsal today (as well as yesterday- I forgot to mention it in the last rehearsal report- I’m deeply sorry)

Props:

Bring baby wipes for Jillian to clean tomatoes off of herself

Bring hand sanitizer (Cam is allergic to peanut butter- Jon and Andrea must clean their hands after they deal with the peanut butter props)

Bring spoon for peanut butter (scene 18)

We still need a pillow for the bed (Dean said that he is planning on bringing one of his own to rehearsal tomorrow)

We got new sheets for the bed and a briefcase for the psychiatrist today. (Thanks Dean!)

Jon held the tomato today for prologue and epilogue, however he did not smush it on Jillian yet. (We are planning on starting to smush the tomato at Wednesday’s rehearsal)

Costumes:

Today was our first run in costumes. We didn’t have any major costume issues. Some of the scene changes took a little longer because Jon was still changing. Also, Jon took his shoes off in scene 3, and then had his shoes untied until scene 13 because he didn’t have time to retie them (now, Jon will not take his shoes off in scene 3)

Makeup/Hair:

All of the actors did hair and makeup today. Many of them came to rehearsal with hair and makeup already done (so we do not have accurate prep-timing for today). Cam was late coming back to warm-ups because she was doing makeup in the bathroom.

Lights:

Barb came to run the light board today. Orli taught Barb how to operate the board, and then she operated for the run of the show. After the run of the show, Orli fixed some cues (she made the blue-outs for scene changes dimmer and she made the spot for the prologue smaller and sharper)

Rehearsal Report 9/16

Call Began: 10:00

Breaks: 11:00-11:10 and 11:50-12:10 and 12:55-3:00

Ended: 5:35

General:

We did a cue to cue for lighting tech. The cast practiced scene changes, and Meghan set all of the lighting cues for the show. Emma took call notes for lights (including standby calls)

We practiced transitions for the cast. In the cue-to-cue they were moving very slowly and inefficiently, so this run was meant to help them solidify exactly what they need to be doing in each transition.

We did a full run through (timing: 1hour 11 minutes) with Meghan running lights and Emma calling cues. Hutch came to watch. After the run, Hutch gave Kat notes, and then Kat gave the cast notes. Jon only called for line about 3 times- everyone else was completely off book.

Sound:

We may want to add music for the scene changes?

Set:

We got a sheet and a blanket for the bed today. However, they kept getting messed up and sliding off of the bed with the amount of people who sit on them. We are going to try to get a fitted sheet instead of just a loose sheet. We also need a pillow.

Props:

We are still missing the food props, and some others. We ordered some things from amazon (Zippo lighter, boxing gloves, glasses) but we are still waiting for them to come.

Rubber band the play money together in a stack

Costumes:

Jon brought in his suit today. Jillian brought in a white dress. We did not run with costumes today

Makeup/Hair:

Email Elaine + Lydia about using old age makeup for Grandmother

Lights:

Meghan came and set the lights for the first time today. Then, she ran the light board for our transition work and our full run through.

Rehearsal Report 9/13

Call Began: 6:00

Breaks: 6:55-7:15

Ended: 8:45

General:

Kat worked mainly on Wallace’s age for Jon’s monologues. For scene 1, Kat worked on getting Jon to be more energetic and active- with constant movement and hand motions. For scene 5, they played with the tone of voice that Wallace is talking in.  For 9, they worked on making the monologue more conversational (especially in his stance).

We practiced the scene changes. Emma ran lighting, and the actors practiced moving the set pieces and props for each of the scenes in blue lighting. Emma also timed each of the scene changes.

Props:

Emma made a props table on stage right for today’s rehearsal. We are still waiting on some of the props (the boxing gloves, glasses, and food items). We are also planning on putting a small props table on Stage left.

The actors tried on their final costume pieces. Jillian tried on pants and a shirt for Nina, Sydney tried on shorts and a shirt for Lili, Molly tried on a dress for Grandma, Caroline tried on a shirt and shorts for Victoria, and Cam tried on shorts and a shirt for Wendy.

Lights:

We practiced doing the scene changes in blue lighting

Rehearsal Report 9/12

Call Began: 7:00

Breaks: 7:25-7:40

Ended: 9:30

General:

We worked on scenes 6 and 13. They ran each scene 2 times. The scenes looked very solid- Kat gave a couple of notes, but for the most part, these scenes looked ready

We worked on scene 14. The actors were mostly off book for this scene- Jon only called for line 2 times during the first run of the scene. Kat had worked on pacing the last time we ran this scene, and they improved a lot with those notes since the last run.

We worked on scenes 4 and 7. Kat worked on pacing, and a little bit on intention and age for scene 4. For scene 7, Kat re-worked the intimacy a little bit, changing how Wallace kisses Victoria the second time (and where he touches her). Kat thought that him touching her on the face made him look older and more experienced (which was not the image Kat wanted).

Sound:

Emma operated the sound board, using a boxing sound effect from Youtube for our runs of scene 14 today.

Costumes:

Sami tried on her psychiatrist dress, victoria tried on the dress for her first scene, and molly tried on a pair of pants and two shirts for the grandmother. Everything fit! (YAY!)

Lights:

Emma operated general lighting for scene 14 (the dream sequence). The lighting started dull at the beginning of the scene, then changed to a blue lighting when Wallace starts to say “I need a mother.” The lighting stayed that way until Wallace ran on screaming, which is when the stage returned to full lighting.

Rehearsal Report 9/11

Call Began:  6:00

Breaks: 6:21-6:30

Ended: 8:50

General:

We did work on scene 17. Since Sydney is sick, we ran the scene with just a high-five in place of the kiss (because we don’t want the rest of the cast getting sick as well). Kat worked on mostly drunk physicality with both Cam and Jon.

We did work for scenes 10 and 12. They also used a high-five in place of the kiss.

We ran scenes 2 and 18. We used general lighting for these scenes (described in lighting section)

We did work for scenes 16, 19, prologue and epilogue. They also used a high-five in place of the kiss.

Costumes:

We started to try on costumes today. Abby tried on her Sarah dress, Andrea tried on a black turtle neck for mother, and Jillian tried on a skirt and shirt for Nina.

Lights:

We played with using lights in both of the mother’s scenes. We tried switching to red as she kills herself, and then going to blackout. Emma ran the light system for two runs of each of the mother’s scenes.

Rehearsal Report 9/9

Call Began: 6:30

Ended: 9:30

General:

Kat blocked all of the scene changes. We didn’t run through the scene changes, though – instead we spiked each of the set pieces, and planned who would move which pieces in each scene.

Fight call: (timing- 7 minutes 06 seconds )

Grandma/Wallace punch (scene 14)

Psychiatrist / Wallace punch (scene 14)

Victoria/ Wallace push (scene 4)

Nina/Wallace hit (scene 19)

Victoria and Wallace (scene 7) (scene 14)

Sarah and Wallace (scene 10)

Lili and Wallace (scene 15)

Nina and Wallace (scene 16)

Wendy and Wallace (scene 17)

We ran all of the intimacy with just high fives in place of the kisses

We did some tongue twisters and shake-outs as a quick warm up before the stumble through

Stumble through (timing- 1 hour 46 minutes 03 seconds)

We ran through the entire show. Anjali and Meghan came to observe. Emma was on book (only Jon called for line- everyone else was entirely off-book). Emma also read the lighting cues. We didn’t stop during any of the scenes, however, we did have to pause a few times to get the scene changes right and to make sure all of the props were in place. The props and set pieces that we did not use today are listed in those sections.

After the run through, Kat gave the notes that she had taken throughout the run through.

Set:

We used all of the set pieces that we had.

We still don’t have Wallace’s bed. So, we used the black bench and some chairs as a make-shift bed.

Props:

We used all of the props that we had.

We are still missing:

zippo lighter
